Collect and Play: Have Fun With a Toy Hobby

Some adults never seem to grow up. They seem to keep their childish wonders in the world around them. These are the adults who started the hobby of playing. Kids love hanging out with these adults because they look more like kids. Sometimes having a baby or a grandchild can spark interest in toys. Be that as it may, a hobby game will make a person young at heart.

Many women love dolls and never outgrow them. Some prefer baby dolls, some fashion dolls, and some prefer antique or decorative dolls. Interest in dolls often turns into an interest in crafts, as a doll lover begins to make clothes and accessories for his favorite dolls. Sometimes a hobbyist becomes skilled at making dolls themselves. Some types of dolls that are often handmade are rag dolls and cloth dolls with ceramic heads. It is not uncommon to find old women who have an entire room in their house filled with special dolls on display.

On the other hand, older men (and sometimes women too) love cars and trucks. Antique metal cars are hot collectibles, and some vintage cars are very valuable. Matchbox cars have always been popular, but so is the Tonka dumptruck's big truck, motor grader, and bulldozer. You can bet your grandchildren will want to play with your trucks and cars.

A very popular gaming hobby is collecting Beanie Babies. These little plush animals, made by Ty, each have their own personality. You can find Beanie Babies in every kind of animal you can think of. A similar hobby is collecting teddy bears. There are many Beanie Baby teddy bears, but a collector will likely want to branch out to collect other types of teddy bears. In fact, many bear collectors own figurines and other collected items in addition to their teddy bears.

Wooden toys are popular among adults, both in industry and for collecting. There is something strange and fun about a child playing with a handmade wooden toy. Wooden toys make attractive home accents wherever they fall, which is something you can't say about the latest plastic gadgets. People who love to decorate the countryside often prefer wooden toys for their children.

You don't have to skip games! Playing will keep you young at heart and make you a favorite among the kids in your area. Whether you collect or make toys, the hobby of toys is something you can play with!

Have a game night in your home!

Build family connection and bonding by having a weekly hobby night playing games. It is so easy these days to let work, school and life work take over the day, that we can easily lose touch with one another. If we get together one night each week for a hobby game night, we can rekindle those family bonds.

Families with young children are likely to focus on the game side of game hobby night. Take the time to get down on the floor and play with these little ones. Cuddle these dolls and call yourself "Grandma" or "Grandpa". Push those trucks and pretend with the kids. If your back can handle it, let them take turns riding you like a horse while crawling and neighing. Every kid loves it!

On summer evenings, try the game night hobby game in the sandbox in the garden. Using an old produce mesh bag, gather a variety of sand toys that are suitable to take with you. These games include different containers, a few wheeled vehicles, garden play tools, and kitchen utensils. In the sandbox with your kids, you can create cities with roads, castles, or just about anything.

Modeling dough is also a great activity on game night. Collect some mini cookie cutters and old jar lids (for pans) and create fancy cookies and desserts - inedible and calorie-free, of course! Kids can flip a large box on its side to get a table and display the goodies for sale. Of course, you will pretend to buy, eat and have fun!

Some of the fun games for a family night out include card games like Uno, board games like Candy Land or Life, and domino games. When choosing games to play, there are many things to consider. Is Scrabble, for example, fun for everyone, or does all the spelling and thinking seem like work for some players? Does the game take so long to play, that some players' interest ends? Does the game encourage unforgiving competition, like Monopoly, making losers feel left out? It is important for children to learn how to lose and have fun. Don't "throw" the game, deliberately letting them win all the time, but don't beat them mercilessly every time either. Make it fun. If losing is an issue for some kids, check out some new co-op games where everyone is on the same team.

Hobbies are also great to share as a family. Perhaps your family would be interested in pursuing musical skills together. Families make great singing groups

Because their voices match so well. If that doesn't work for you, you may all enjoy fishing. Square dancing is fun for some families, while others enjoy playing badminton or other active games and sports. The important thing is to have fun together.

Having a hobby game night each week will help you stay close to your kids as they grow. It will keep the bond of love renewed and the lines of communication open. Plan a hobby game game night this week!
